Outdoor Winter Activities in the Hudson Valley
Go on a Brisk Hike
Pack your boots and warm clothes and take to the trails! Hudson Valley winter hikes have a distinct beauty all their own. There is an abundance of state parks, nature preserves, and mountain ridges to explore; here are just a few.
Head over to the Hudson Highlands State Park and enjoy the spectacular backdrop of the Hudson River and Hudson Highlands as you meander through the snowy trails. Trek through the Mohonk Preserve to viewpoints high over the valley. The Minnewaska State Park Preserve provides several scenic trails that pass by forests and lakes. Both the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park Preserve offer trails that follow portions of the Shawangunk Ridge.
At the Franny Reese State Park, you’ll discover the ruins of a 19th-century estate, and an overlook that has views of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Walkway Over the Hudson. Bear Mountain lies a bit farther from Saint Hubert’s Lodge at just under an hour’s distance, but it is worth the trip. You can hike a portion of the Appalachian Trail to the Perkins Memorial Tower to see sweeping panoramic vistas.
